Pick the factors you think should explain fertility — GDP per capita, female schooling, labour-force participation, contraceptive prevalence, child mortality, urbanisation, connectivity — and the app fits a simple model of fertility rate on your selection and maps what it fails to explain, country by country. It also includes a new, experimental predictor I am calling the Possibility Index: a rough measure of the opportunity a place seems to offer, built from amenity density, connectivity, population density, and net migration. There is a US-state view too, fit as its own separate model.

Time Silently/Saliently Decaying

A short video about the felt duration of time. Both halves have identical content and identical length, but in the first half the most salient parts of each frame have been stripped out (using the SaliencyToolbox, then handled with considerable artistic licence). As you watch, pay attention to how long each half feels. Not a controlled demonstration — an invitation to notice something.
